A THOMASIAN author has urged aspiring writers to draw inspiration from the Catholic faith into their writing.

“Upang matupad itong tungkulin at pangako ng pagsulat, kailangan ko ring ituring ang opisina ng pagsulat bilang isang katambal ng Simbahan, ang tabernakulo ng aking pananampalataya,” said Louie Jon Sanchez in a lecture during the launching of his book last March 11 at De La Salle University in Manila.

Sanchez’s book “Pagkahaba-haba man ng Prusisyon: Mga Pagtatapat at Pahayag ng Pananampalataya” is a collection of essays that discuss the spiritual aspect of living in the modern world.

Sanchez, who studied journalism in UST, stressed on patience and perseverance as qualities needed by writers.

“Nais kong igiit na sa kung may natutuhan man ako sa lahat ng ito (writing), ‘yun ay ang birtud at pangako sa bawat walang pagmamadaling pananatili sa pasensya, sa pagtitiyaga sa pagkadalumat, sa pagtitiis sa ‘di madaling pag-iisip lalo pa’t masusi at malalim,” he said.

Sanchez’s previous works “At sa Tahanan ng Alabok: Tula” and “Kung Saan sa Katawan: Mga Tula,” published by the UST Publishing House in 2010 and 2013, respectively, were relaunched in the event.

The lecture was sponsored by the Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center.
