THE PROFESSIONAL Regulatory Commission (PRC) named Assistant to the Rector for Research and Development Dr. Fortunato Sevilla this year’s Outstanding Professional Chemist Award last June 21 for his field and research works in Chemistry.

Prior to his citation, Sevilla was the only Thomasian to be nominated by the Professional Chemist Society, the national organization of chemists in the Philippines.

He earned the award for his pioneering works in the field of sensor technology and for being one of the few scientists in the country specializing in the development of chemical sensors and biosensors as applied to medical, agro-food and environmental analyses.

Sevilla was a director of the UST Research Center for Natural Sciences and is presently a faculty member of the Chemistry department of the College of Science. He has received numerous awards and citations here and abroad. John Ferdinand T. Buen
