May 12, 10:55 a.m.- THOMASIAN Supreme Court Associate Justice Renato Corona has been appointed Supreme Court chief justice by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, according to a report by abs-cbnnews.com.
 
Corona is set to replace Chief Justice Reynato Puno when the latter retires on May 17.
 
The report said Corona was chosen because “he is the most senior justice” among other contenders. He bested two other senior Supreme Court associate justices namely Arturo Brion and Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, and Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Edilberto Sandoval.
