April 26, 2012, 7:52 p.m: After a two-year hiatus, the UST Lady Spikers returned with a bang, walloping NCAA runner-up Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-10, 25-10, 25-13, in their Shakey’s V-League match at the Arena in San Juan Thursday.
UST relied on the sturdy kills of Thai guest player Utaiwan Kaensing early in the third set to erect a seven-point lead, 11-4.
The 23-year-old Kaensing continued to keep Letran at bay with consecutive kills to jack up the lead, 20-12. Sophomore Jessey de Leon ended the match for UST.
Kaensing sizzled for UST with 17 points, including 11 attacks and two blocks, while veterans Judy Caballejo and Mika Ortiz stepped up with 13 markers apiece.
“They (players) are all veterans. But we still need to maximize our training,” coach Odjie Mamon said. Alexis U. Cerado
