THE LADY Spikers will meet the undefeated Ateneo De Manila University in the finals of the 9th Shakey’s V-League, which will begin on Sunday.
UST earned the spot after cruising past San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-12,25-13, 25-23, in their do-or-die match at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday afternoon.
“Our goal was just really to reach the finals and now that we’re here, I’ll motivate the team to overachieve,” coach Odjie Mamon said.
The Lady Spikers have an 8-2 win-loss record while Ateneo remains unscathed in nine games.
San Sebastian tried to stage a comeback in the third set, but UST’s Maika Ortiz countered with running attacks to seal the match.
Thai ace Utaiwan Kaensing exploded with 17 points, while Judy Caballejo had 14 attacks for UST. San Sebastian’s sensational import Jeng Baulee, who set a tournament record of 40 markers in the last game, scored 18. Jose Antonio R. Nisay
