09 May 2013, 10:25 p.m. – MAIKA Ortiz erupted anew to carry UST Lady Spikers past NCAA defending champion University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 15-11, in the Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan Thursday evening.

Ortiz dropped six of her 23 points in the deciding set as UST remained undefeated in three outings heading into the semifinals. Up next for the Lady Spikers is Ateneo de Manila University.

The semifinals is set on May 14, 2 p.m., at the Philsports Arena.

Guest player Joy Cases and team captain Honey Rose Tubino combined for 33 markers for the Lady Altas.

Ortiz opened the last frame with five kills to build an early 6-1 lead for UST.

The Lady Altas fought back as Cases scored two hits that kept them within three, 7-10.

But UST displayed a steadier floor defense and a furious offense down the stretch with former UST standout Aiza Maizo put the icing on the cake.

“We had a slow start especially that Aiza (Maizo) and Carmela (Tunay) were not on their one hundred percent,” said coach Odjie Mamon. Alexis U. Cerado
