– SOCIOLOGIST Clarence Batan of the Faculty of
Arts and Letters has been appointed the new director of the UST Research Center
for Culture, Education and Social Issues (RCCESI).

Batan, who headed the RCCESI youth
studies program, will replace Asian Studies professor Arlen Ancheta.

Batan is also the vice president of
the Philippine Sociological Society and chairman of the Technical Committee for
Sociology of the Commission on Higher Education.

RCCESI is the University’s research
arm in “advocating interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives
following the research-directed programs scheme.”

Projects include research on various
orientations in philosophy and studies on heritage and conservation,
literature, culture, and language.

RCCESI
also conducts research for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
