NAGWAGI ang ilang Tomasinong mananaliksik sa kompetisyon ng Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering (Paase) noong ika-14 ng Agosto.

Nakamit nina Celine Causapin, Prof. Christina Binag at Asst. Prof. Felicidad Ramirez ang unang gantimpala sa Materials Science Cluster para sa kanilang poster paper, “Abaca-Cotton Fabric with Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Polyaniline-Polypyrolle Complex Layer: A Greener Approach to Energy Storage.”

We have been very dependent on fossil fuels which is a limited resource and is a main contributor of air pollution… This textile-based supercapacitor is biodegradable and highly sustainable with the use of indigenous fabric like abaca blended with cotton,” wika ni Binag sa panayam sa Varsitarian.

Para sa Disease, Medicine and Pharmaceutical Cluster, napanalunan nina Omar Villalobos at Assoc. Prof. Oliver Villaflores ang ikalawang gantimpala para sa “Euglycemic and wound healing activities of Wrightia antidysenterica extracts.”

The goal of the study is to discover new and active compounds from natural sources that can lower the blood glucose level and accelerate the wound healing process in patients suffering from diabetes,” sabi ni Villalobos sa panayam sa Varsitarian.

Prof. Pia Albano sa parehong cluster para sa poster paper na “Discrimination of Malignant from Benign Thyroid Lesions through Neural Networks using FTIR Signals Obtained from Tissues.”

Prof. Leonardo Guevarra Jr., Abegail Santillan, Ruth Bangaoil at Allan Fellizar.

Kabilang din sa mga kalahok sina Charina Gail Baloy, Prof. Mary Jho-Anne Corpuz, at Villaflores para sa “In-Vitro Anti-β Anticholinesterase and Free Radical Scavenging Activities of Clitoria ternatea (Linn.) (Fabaceae) Leaf Extracts.”

World Hospital (Tacloban City, Leyte) at University of the Philippines Los Baños.
