TWO THOMASIAN researchers were named “Best Health Research Mentor” by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.

Prof. Agnes Castillo from the UST Faculty of Pharmacy, whose research interests include the development of natural products for drug delivery systems, was cited in the graduate category for the National Capital Region.

Chemistry alumnus Jonel Saludes of the University of San Agustin, whose studies focus on antibiotic properties found in marine bacteria and plants, was cited in the junior researcher category for Visayas.

Saludes obtained his master’s degree in chemistry at UST in 1999.

The Best Health Research Mentor is awarded biennially to research advisers who have made significant contributions in building the health research sector.

Awardees are selected per cluster namely Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and NCR and categorized according to their mentees (undergraduate, graduate, junior researchers).

The national winners, which will be selected among the cluster winners, will be announced later in March. A.L. Parungao
