THE ATENEO de Manila University Blue Batters (Team B) overwhelmed the UST Golden Sox (Team B), 16-5, in the 2016 PSC Commissioner’s Baseball Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday.
Winless in three games, UST is now eliminated from the tournament.
The Golden Sox cut the lead to two at the bottom of the fifth inning, 5-7, after a run by John Mark Morales. But Ateneo pulled away for good with a 9-0 blitz going into the sixth inning.
“Maganda naman kasi kahit papaano tumatama, may improvement. Kaya lang ang nag-deliver talaga today ay ‘yung mga bata galing [UST] high school” head coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.
UST scored three runs at the bottom of the second inning courtesy of Eros Bravo, Mark Perez and Bombi Pedracio. But four runs from the Blue Batters kept the lead, 4-7.
Three Ateneo runners completed all bases in the opening inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
