THE UST Golden Sox took a 13-6 beating from the De La Salle University Green Batters in the UAAP Season 80 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.

The Green Batters started the game hot with four conversions in the first two innings courtesy of Juan Lozano, Paulo Salud and Francis Gesmundo, 4-0.

In the fourth inning, UST’s Marlon Gonzales, Gio Martinez and Benedict Pedracio connived for three runs to cut the deficit, 4-5.

“Kulang sa focus ang mga pitcher ko, kulang sa ensayo,” UST head coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.

Alwen Calbang hit a home run in the fifth inning to keep the Golden Sox afloat, 5-6.

But La Salle put the finishing touches in the seventh and eighth innings after bombarding the Golden Sox with six runs courtesy of Gesmundo, Pocholo Dominguez, Paul Naguit, Angelo Tantuico and Jose Pineda to come away with the win.

The Tiger Sox slid to a 1-1 win-loss card.

UST will try to bounce back against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Feb. 11, Sunday, 7 a.m., at the same venue.
