THE UST Golden Sox’s late run fell short against the Adamson University Soaring Falcons who escaped with a 7-6 victory in the UAAP Season 80 baseball tournament at Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.

UST nailed five runs in the last three innings, courtesy of Jackson Acuña, Noriel Valencia, Marlon Gonzales and Ron Christian De la Cruz but were not enough to bring the game to extra period.

“Malamig ang batting sa umpisa, maraming strikeout,” UST coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.

Adamson built a six-point cushion in the fifth inning after runs-batted-in by Kyle Villafaña, Lexter Carandang and Al Benito that sent Carandang, Jerome Yenson and Steven Manaig to home plate, 7-1.

Adamson started hot with four runs in the first two innings by Benito, Yenson, Carandang and Erwin Bosito, 4-0.

The Golden Sox fell to fourth place with a 3-3 win-loss slate.

UST will try to bounce back against the De La Salle University Green Batters on Feb. 25, Sunday, at the same venue.
