THE UST Golden Sox secured a win on Saturday against the National University Bulldogs, 5-4, to finish their Philippine Baseball League campaign at seventh place at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Golden Sox ended the tournament with a 2-4 win-loss record.
Down 3-4 in the ninth inning, UST tied the game via an infield hit from Benedict Pedracio that sent Jackson Acuña to home base, 4-4.
Golden Sox Arniel Villariquez’s bunt hit allowed Pedracio to reach home plate for the win, 5-4.
“Kinailangan lang noong mga players maging aggressive, ‘yon lang talaga ang nagkulang sa mga previous na laro,” UST head coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.
Trailing 1-4 in the eighth inning, the Golden Sox converted two runs courtesy of Pedracio and Jayvee Selda to narrow the deficit, 3-4.
The Golden Sox will see action again in the UAAP Season 81 baseball tournament against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on Feb. 17, Sunday, 7 a.m., at the same venue. F.Y.W.N.Ragasa
