THE UST Golden Sox outlasted defending champion Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 10-7, in the UAAP Season 81 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.

Ron de la Cruz delivered two strikeouts and disposed of Falcon Bryan Castillo at the bottom of the ninth inning to seal the win.

“Maganda ang pagpili ko na rookies as starters kasi na-scout na namin ‘yan (Adamson) na mahina (pagdating) sa mga bolang lumalabas sa strike zone,” Golden Sox head coach Jeff Santiago said.

Trailing 10-3, Adamson cut UST’s lead down to four at the bottom of the eighth inning courtesy of Christian Maigue, Castillo, Kyle Villafaña and Steven Manaig, 10-7.

Gio Martinez managed to score a run for the Golden Sox after a pitching error from Adamson’s Raymond Nerosa at the top of the seventh inning.

UST’s Mark Beronilla, Alwen Calbang, Martinez, Adrian Aguilar and John Antonio all converted runs to extend the lead to seven at the top of the third inning.

The Golden Sox will next face the National University Bulldogs on Feb. 24, Sunday, 10 a.m. at the same venue.
