Oct. 22 2016, 2:35 p.m. – THE NATIONAL University Lady Bulldogs wiped out the UST Growling Tigresses, 71-49, in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs handed the Tigresses their second straight loss behind reigning MVP Afril Bernardino who had 24 points and 14 rebounds. They remain undefeates in 11 games.

The Tigresses, now with a 3-7 record, scored only nine points in each of the first three quarters. They shot an atrocious 30 percent from the field and muffed eight of their 14 free throw attempts.

“[For the] first three quarters, hindi kami maka-shoot. There was a time in the middle of the first quarter na hindi naman ganoon. It all comes down to experience plus seasoned ang mga players nila,” said head coach Haydee Ong.

UST kept the game close before the defending champs unleashed a 15-1 blitz to lead 21-7.

Shanda Anies and Jhenn Angeles paced UST with 11 points apiece.

UST will face the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 8 a.m., at the same venue.
