THE UST Growling Tigers absorbed their second straight loss, 80-65, against the University of the East Red Warriors in the 11th Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

UST led by four points with 8:38 left in the game until UE pulled away with a 13-6 run.
Red Warrior Clark Derige’s trey with a little over two minutes left put the game beyond UST’s reach, 74-62.
“Para sa akin, ‘yung talo ngayon alam kong may purpose kasi rebuilding kami ngayon,” UST team captain Marvin Lee told the Varsitarian.
UE, which shot 46 percent from the field, banked on Derige’s 16-point effort, including four three-pointers. Alvin Pasaol added 15 points while Mark Olayon scored 13 with four assists.
Steve Akomo had 14 points, 15 boards and 4 blocks while Carlos Escalambre chipped in 10 markers for the Tigers.
UST will face UAAP defending champions De La Salle University on Sunday, May 14, 5 p.m.
