THE UST Tiger Cubs settled for fourth place in the 11th Filoil Flying V Premier Preseason Cup after a 86-75 beating against the National University-Nazareth Bullpups at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.
CJ Balingit put the Cubs within a point early in the fourth, but the Bullpups rode on a 16-6 run to clinch bronze.
Rhayan Amsali dropped 30 points and 14 boards for NU while Winderlich Cayoca and Pao Javillonar combined for 30 markers.
UST led by as much as eight points in the second quarter but timely shots from Amsali and Terrence Portea kept the Bullpups within distance.
Paolo Hernandez led the Tiger Cubs with 14 markers.
“It’s a good preparation para sa atin itong Filoil kasi lahat tumaas yung level ng laro … nakikita mo na yung will ng mga bata para manalo,” UST head coach Chris Cantojos told the Varsitarian.
“Makikita mo talaga yung big improvement from attitude to workmanship,” he added.
The Tiger Cubs finished the elimination round with a 4-1 record before Ateneo de Manila University knocked them in the semifinals.
