CJ CANSINO scored 19 points and grabbed 14 boards as the UST Tiger Cubs dominated the University of the East Junior Warriors, 88-76, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ basketball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Saturday.
The Tigers never looked back after Cansino’s layup gave UST a commanding 70-57 lead late in the third quarter.
“We changed our defensive strategy. It all worked pagdating sa dulo kaya naging maganda laro nila,” UST coach Chris Cantonjos told the Varsitarian.
UST scored 13 points off the Junior Warriors’ 12 turnovers, while also outrebounding UE, 60-48.
Cyril Narvasa scored 17 markers while Bismarck Lina also had a double-double for UST with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Shane Dichoso paced UE with 26 points.
UST is tied at third place with Far Eastern University with a 6-5 win-loss record.
The Tiger Cubs will next face Adamson Junior Soaring Falcons on Feb. 4, Sunday, 1 p.m., at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.
