The Adamson University Baby Falcons used a 26-5 run in the third quarter to bury the UST Tiger Cubs, 91-74, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Sunday.
The Tiger Cubs trimmed the deficit to 14 in the payoff period, 65-79, but Jose Sabandal scored five-straight points to push the lead back to 19 with 3:10 to go.
Andrey and Adam Doria led Adamson and combined for 37 points while Sabandal and Didat Hanapi poured 20 and 18 markers, respectively
The Baby Falcons took advantage of UST’s faulty plays and converted 25 points out of 22 turnovers.
“Nire-remind nga namin na ‘wag masiyado ma-dribble, na ipasa na agad ‘yung bola. Ang nangyari, sa backcourt pa lang dribble na sila nang dribble kaya ang daming turnovers,” UST assistant coach Richie Melencio said.
Top Cub CJ Cansino paced UST with 32 points and nine rebounds.
With the loss, UST tied Adamson for fourth place in the standings with identical 6-6 win-loss records.
UST will next face the De La Salle Zobel on Feb. 7, Wednesday, 3 p.m. at the same venue.
