FOUR Growling Tigresses will suit up for the first UAAP 3×3 basketball tournament while their male counterparts opted to sit out from the competition.

Preparing for the 3×3 tournament would require a different kind of training, Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo told the Varsitarian.

“Iba kasi ang concept ng 3×3 sa UAAP na if you want to join the tournament, you have to prepare. Dun sa preparation na ‘yun, magsasayang ng oras dun,” he said.

Tigresses team captain Jhenn Angeles, Anjel Anies, and Karla Manuel will start for UST while Carolina Sangalang will play off the bench in the demonstration sport.

“It depends on the school that we’ll go against who will start or not just to balance our match up,” Tigresses head coach Haydee Ong said in a text message.

Ong also bared the team had been told about the tournament two weeks ago and only had a week to prepare.

The tournament will follow a single round eliminations format and will be divided into two groups. The top two teams per bracket will advance to the Final Four.

UST will join Far Eastern University, National University and University of the Philippines in Group B while Group A consists of the Ateneo de Manila University, Adamson University, De La Salle University and University of the East.

The tournament will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena Music Hall on Sunday.
