THE SAN Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags sent the UST Growling Tigers reeling to their second-straight loss, 79-71, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan Friday.
The Stags scored 13 unanswered points to pull away for good midway through the payoff period, 75-64.
San Sebastian’s suffocating defense held UST to just 11 points in the opening quarter, 23-11.
Freethrow shooting remained a problem for UST after missing 14 out of 27 attempts from the charity stripe. The Stags made 11 of their 16 freebies.
Allyn Bulanadi led San Sebastian with 23 points while John Calma added 10 markers, 17 rebounds and five blocks.
Marvin Lee had 23 points for UST.
The Tigers will try to bounce back against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on May 15, 2:15 p.m., at the same venue.
