THE UST Growling Tigers blew a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter and the Centro Escolar University Scorpions scored an 81-80 come-from-behind win in the Smart-UCBL Summer Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy Gym Sunday.
The Scorpions stormed back with a 17-2 run to take a three-point lead with 20 seconds to go.
Brent Paraiso failed to convert a layup with five seconds left as the Tigers absorbed their second loss of the tournament.
“Na-pressure na ‘yung mga bata down the stretch. Up by 10 sila, 10 minutes to go, nag-relax na rin,” UST assistant coach Bonnie Garcia said.
The Scorpions collected 14 second chance points compared to UST’s four.
Keanu Caballero led CEU with 15 points while Giles Oloume added 14 markers.
Tiger CJ Cansino led all scorers with 17 points.
The Tigers will try to bounce back against Olivarez College on May 16, Wednesday, 11:30 a.m., at the same venue.
