THE UST Growling Tigers crumbled in the fourth quarter against the National University Bulldogs, 68-73, in the Smart-UCBL Summer Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy Gym Sunday.
The Bulldogs rallied with a 13-2 run to take a five-point lead with a minute left to go.
Brent Paraiso failed to hit a crucial three-pointer with 50 seconds left as the Tigers absorbed their third loss of the tournament.
“Puro rookie ‘yung nandito. We still have to learn from this loss, kulang na kulang pa rin naman kasi yung depensa and we only have limited players here kaya mahina,” UST assistant coach Bonnie Garcia told the Varsitarian.
The Bulldogs collected 13 second-chance points compared to UST’s four.
Patrick Yu led NU with 13 points while Nico Abatayo added 10 markers.
Tiger Sherwin Concepcion led all scorers with 18 points.
The Tigers (1-3) will face University of the Philippines on May 23, Wednesday, 1:15 p.m., at the same venue.
