Growling Tigresses blow out UP by 87

THE UST Growling Tigresses crushed the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons by a whopping 87 points, 129-42, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday. 

The Tigresses started the game with a 28-4 bomb and never looked back. 

“The team made a statement today because of teamwork and hardwork from the start pa lang and ‘yong defense namin (gumana na),” Tigresses head coach Haydee Ong said. 

UST’s lead ballooned to 89 points via Ana Mae Tacatac’s triple with 37 ticks left in the payoff period, 129-40. 

UP committed 56 turnovers resulting in 42 easy points for the Tigresses. 

Sai Larosa flirted with a triple-double for UST with 28 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists while Grace Irebu added 24 markers, 13 boards, six blocks and four steals. 

Noella Cruz was the lone player to finish in double digits for the Lady Maroons with 13 points. 

Tigress Ruby Portillo did not play due to an ankle injury and is expected to play on their game against Adamson University. 

UST improved to 1-1 win-loss card while UP slid to 0-2.

The Tigresses will next face the Adamson Lady Falcons on Sept. 26, Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Blue Eagle Gym.
