THE UST Growling Tigresses grabbed their second-straight victory after a 30-point shellacking of the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 85-55, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Wednesday.

With her team trailing 40-60 with 3:14 minutes left in the third quarter, Lady Rose Rosario tried to bring Adamson back in the game after back-to-back treys, but the Tigresses ignited a 9-2 run to pull away for good, 71-48.

“[Adamson] does not have a matchup for Grace Irebu kasi siya talaga first option namin. Noong time na dino-double na siya, nagkaroon ng easy putback sila Sai (Larosa),” UST head coach Haydee Ong said.

After a slim two-point lead at the end of the first canto, 21-19, the Tigresses broke away in the second frame with a 21-12 run, capped by Irebu’s hook shot.

UST milked 66 inside points while Adamson only had 30.

Irebu had a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds while team captain Tin Capilit had 17 markers and six boards.

Nathalie Prado and Rosario had 13 points apiece for Adamson.

UST will next face the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on Sept. 30, Sunday, 3 p.m., at the same venue.
