UST cagers stumble in UAAP 3×3 tourney

UST BASKETBALL teams split their games on the first day of the UAAP Season 81 3×3 basketball tournament at the Ayala Malls Feliz in Marikina City Saturday.

The Growling Tigers escaped the Adamson University Soaring Falcons in overtime, 16-14, after Soulemane Chabi Yo’s layup and freebie.

In their third game, the Tigers upset the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 12-8, after Renzo Subido, Rhenz Abando and Chabi Yo each tallied four points.

The Tigers started the day luckless after falling short against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 11-9, and National University Bulldogs, 9-8.

UST is at fourth place behind a 2-2 win-loss record.

In women’s action, the Growling Tigresses succumbed to the Adamson University Lady Falcons in their last match of the day, 9-7.

Trailing 0-3, Adamson unleashed a 7-0 run to pull away for good, capped by Rose Dampios’ layup, 7-3.

The Tigresses registered wins against the FEU Lady Tamaraws, 9-8, and the UP Lady Maroons, 15-11.

In their third game, UST yielded to the University of the East Lady Warriors by a point, 6-7.

The Tigresses are tied with UE for fourth place behind a 2-2 slate.

The Tigers will face the De La Salle University and the Ateneo de Manila University, while their female counterparts will battle Ateneo, La Salle and defending champion National University tomorrow, March 3, at the same venue.
