BIG MAN Germy Mahinay has parted ways with the UST Growling Tigers and joined the National University Bulldogs, he told the Varsitarian Monday.
Mahinay, who informed the UST coaching staff of his decision last March, clarified that he did not leave due to problems with head coach Aldin Ayo’s system.
“Malaki ang natulong sa akin ng UST, lalo na si coach Aldin, mga coaches at mga teammates ko,” he said.
“Naramdaman ko sa sarili ko na mas umayos akong maglaro at nabigyan ako ng opportunity na ipakita ito sa Thomasian community.”
Mahinay played his final game with the Tigers in UST’s 94-70 victory over Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League last Feb. 18.
Mahinay will undergo a one-year residency at NU and is expected to see action on Season 83.
He averaged 4.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his lone season with the Tigers.
