Growling Tigers snap losing skid with league-high 101 points vs UE

ZACHARY Huang and Soulemane Chabi-Yo scored 22 points apiece as the UST Growling Tigers snapped their two-game losing skid at the expense of the University of the East Red Warriors, 101-78, in the second round of the UAAP season 82 men’s basketball at the Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

The Tigers drained 14 three-pointers to become the first team to crack the century mark this season.

UE committed nine turnovers in the first half, allowing the Tigers to build a 53-29 lead by halftime.

The Red Warriors responded with a 16-2 run at the end of the third canto, but UST outscored UE, 27-19, in the fourth quarter to seal the deal.

UST outrebounded the Red Warriors, 55-38, to finish with a 39-of-92 field goal output, almost doubling UE’s 24-of-58 percentage.

Huang sank six three-pointers, including three straight in the third quarter. Chabi-Yo also grabbed 14 rebounds.

Alex Diakhite had a double-double for UE with 24 points and 12 boards.

Up next for the Tigers are the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on Sunday, Oct. 13, 4 p.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.
