THE FAR Eastern University Tamaraws hit big triples in the payoff period and blew past the UST Growling Tigers, 72-58, in their second round UAAP matchup at the SM Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.

Rookie Rhenz Abando came alive for UST in the fourth period, hitting two straight triples that cut the lead to two, 51-53.

But the Tamaraws banked on an 11-3 run, courtesy of Xyrus Torres and Wendell Comboy‘s back-to-back triples, to pull away and tie UST with 5-5 win-loss cards.

Brent Paraiso led the Tigers with 12 points while Zach Huang and Abando posted 11 markers apiece.

Tamaraw LJ Gonzales scattered 17 points and six boards while Royce Alforque scored a career-high 16 markers.

The Tigers face the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Oct. 16, Wednesday, 4 p.m. at the same venue.
