Former De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) standout Kean Baclaan has committed to join the UST Growling Tigers, but will be eligible to suit up in UAAP Season 85.

Baclaan still has a year of senior high school left.

“Sobrang excited na akong makasama sila and alam naman natin kung ano ang nangyari sa UST before, so rebuilding talaga ang team. Karamihan sa’min rookie kaya once na nag start na ang practice, doon namin makukuha ‘yung chemistry and teamwork namin. And lahat kami excited na bumlik sa practice,” he told the Varsitarian.

At five foot eight, Baclaan averaged 16.38 points, eight rebounds and 3.69 assists for DLSZ in Season 82.

UST head coach Jinino Manansala likened Baclaan’s style of play to that of Aljun Melecio, a former UAAP juniors MVP and Rookie of the Year in the seniors’ division. Melecio had also played for then Green Archers’ coach Aldin Ayo, who later joined UST.

In Season 85, Baclaan will join the UST guard rotation of Paul Manalang, Joshua Fontanilla. LA Casinillo and Nicael Cabañero, who by then would have played a year of UAAP basketball. Rommel Bong R. Fuertes Jr.
