The UST Growling Tigers made UAAP history on Thursday after being obliterated by the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 101-51, registering the largest scoring deficit in a game in the Final Four era.

Fifty points is the biggest margin of victory since the UAAP implemented the Final Four format in the 1993-1994 season, according to league statistician Pong Ducanes.

UST trailed by 25 points at the half, 46-21.

Ateneo continued the drubbing of UST with a 34-15 third quarter to lead by 44, 80-36, entering the fourth period.

Ateneo’s lead reached as much as 53 points.

Nic Cabañero scored a team-high 18 points on 8-for-16 shooting for UST.

Six players scored in double digits for the Blue Eagles with Raffy Verano leading the team with 18.

UST shot a season-worst 8 percent from deep, sinking only two out of 25 attempts.

Ateneo’s bench outscored UST’s, 40-11.

With four games left in the season, the Tigers are sitting at a 3-7 win-loss record.

UST will next face the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on Saturday, 10 a.m., at the same venue.
