THE UST Growling Tigers remained winless after absorbing a 91-71 loss against the DLSU Green Archers in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 7.

UST co-captain Nic Cabañero steered UST with 25 points. He was the lone Tiger who scored in double digits.

With the game tied at 7-all in the first quarter, the Green Archers blasted away with a 15-4 run to build an 11-point cushion early.

La Salle widened its lead with 5:47 left in the second quarter after five Joaquin Manuel points and a Kevin Quiambao triple, 39-19.

The Tigers trimmed the lead using a 17-8 spurt to trail by 11 at the end of the first half, 47-36.

However, the Archers entered the second half sizzling hot, hammering UST with a 26-14 third quarter for a 23-point lead.

The Green Archers attained their largest lead in the game after a Joshua David trey that put them ahead by 30 points with 4:42 left, 86-56.

UST scored eight straight points in response but the DLSU lead was already too big to overcome.

The Tigers last notched a win on Oct. 1, 2022.

Quiambao and David chalked up 14 points apiece.

UST now holds the league’s worst record, while La Salle improved to a 2-1 win-loss slate after three games.

The Growling Tigers will next face the NU Bulldogs on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 3 p.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.
