UST big man Adama Faye is out of the Growling Tigers lineup as he decided to undergo recovery for his nagging back injury in Senegal.

UST assistant coach Ian Herrera confirmed Faye’s departure to the Varsitarian.

Faye, who was limited to disappointing averages of 0.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in two games this season because of his injury, returned to Senegal last week.

Faye was a solid presence in the paint for UST last season, averaging 11.38 points, 12.23 rebounds and 2.15 blocks per game.

Faye’s departure opens up a slot for a new foreign student-athlete next season.

With the departure of the Senegalese big man, the now all-Filipino Tigers will rely on big men Echo Laure, Thirdy Crisostomo and Christian Manaytay for paint defense.

Ever since Faye sat out, UST’s defense has suffered. As of Oct. 29, the Tigers have recorded the league-worst record in points and rebounds given up per game at 88 points and 44 boards, respectively.

UST has been the worst team this season, winning only one of nine games with five left to play.
