UST GROWLING Tigresses Tantoy Ferrer and Kent Pastrana have secured slots in the Mythical Five of the UAAP Season 86 women’s basketball tournament.

Pastrana, a transferee out of De La Salle University and the UAAP Season 82 Rookie of the Year, finished third in the MVP race with 77.71 statistical points (SP) after averaging 17.64 points, 5.64 rebounds, 2.29 assists and three steals per game.

Ferrer, who came back from an ACL injury and is in her final playing year, had the sixth-most SP (68.571) with averages of 12 points, seven rebounds, 2.79 assists and 2.29 steals per game.

“It says a lot of our program in UST that it’s more on a skill development, player program rather than a recruitment program,” UST head coach Haydee Ong told the Varsitarian. “I think that will continue if you’re with the UST program and culture, it’s more on skill development program.”

Ferrer was included in the Mythical Five team as the UAAP holds a rule of only one foreign-student athlete per team.

Two foreign-student athletes comprised the top five of the MVP race this season: FEU’s Josee Kaputu and UP’s Favour Onoh.

Onoh was named Rookie of the Year with averages of 10 points, 13.9 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 1.2 steals on 72.714 statistical points, while Kaputu had the second-most SP with 82.

Ateneo’s Kacey de la Rosa bagged the UAAP Season 86 MVP award after averaging 19.57 points, 12 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.5 steals per game, good for 83.85 statistical points.

De la Rosa, Kaputu and Ateneo’s Junize Calago completed the Mythical Five.

The awards were handed out before Game 2 of the women’s basketball finals last Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
