THE UST Growling Tigresses extended their unbeaten streak after demolishing the Adamson Lady Falcons and the DLSU Lady Archers on the second day of the UAAP Season 86 3×3 women’s basketball tournament at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay on Thursday, May 2.

The Tigresses, after toppling Adamson, 21-10, and DLSU, 20-14, improved to a 4-0 win-loss card for 83 points.

DLSU (67 points) and Adamson (64 points) hold the third and fourth seed with 3-1 and 2-2 records, respectively.

Unlike their first two games, the Tigresses did not mount an early cushion against Adamson, as Cheska Apag’s layup in the 4:38 mark tied the match at 8-all.

However, Tacky Tacatac drilled back-to-back triples to give the Tigresses a 12-8 lead with four minutes to go.

The Tigresses blasted away with a 9-2 run, capped by Rocel Dionisio’s reverse layup to notch their first victory of the day, 21-10.

In the second game, DLSU kept it within two in the beginning of the match, 4-2, until Kent Pastrana scorched the Lady Archers with six points, allowing the Tigresses to pull away with a 10-3 lead.

A fadeaway triple by Tacatac within the three-minute mark gave UST an 18-10 edge. Pastrana then scored back-to-back points to put UST at match point, 20-13.

The Tigresses could not get a shot off but limited DLSU to one point in the final minute, letting time expire and come home with the win, 20-14.

Ferrer and Tacatac combined for 14 points, scoring eight and six each against Adamson, while Pastrana sizzled with 10 points against DLSU.

In the girls’ division, the Junior Growling Tigresses snapped NSNU’s six-game winning streak in the girls’ 3×3 basketball tournament, 19-16.

With less than two minutes  left in the game, Karylle Serbia banked in a three to put UST up by five, 17-12.

NSNU’s Alicia Villanueva responded with two treys of her own to keep NU alive with 40 ticks remaining, 17-16.

Barby Dajao sealed the win with two straight points as the Junior Tigresses let time tick away, 19-16.

The Growling Tigresses will next face the FEU Lady Tamaraws and UE Lady Red Warriors at the same venue tomorrow, May 3.

Meanwhile, the UST Junior Growling Tigresses will go against Ateneo and De La Salle-Zobel School at the same date and venue.
