THE UST Spikers scored three blowout victories in the UAAP Season 81 beach volleyball tournament at the SM Sands by the Bay Friday.
The Tiger Spikers improved to a 5-1 win-loss record while the Lady Spikers stayed atop the standings with a clean 4-0 slate.
The Tiger Spikers annihilated the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 21-16, 21-7, before routing the University of the East Red Warriors, 21-9, 21-9.
Red Warrior Alven Aljas’ attack error capped a 10-0 blitz by UST in the second frame to seal the win.
“Umayos na ‘yong laro namin kasi noong game namin versus FEU medyo naghihiwalay ‘yong patella ni Jaron Requinton kaya limitado ang galaw namin sa court,” UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras told the Varsitarian.
Requinton led the Tiger Spikers with 19 points while Anthony Arbasto added nine markers.
Aljas paced UE with 13 markers.
In women’s action, the Lady Spikers crushed the winless UE Lady Warriors, 21-4, 21-6.
Leading 6-3 in the second set, UST unloaded a 15-3 bomb, capped by Baby Love Barbon’s service ace to ice the victory.
“Kahit sinong kalaban kailangan namin respetuhin kasi galaw naman namin ang pino-polish namin, para kapag nakapasok kami sa Final Four, tama na ‘yong galaw ng team, polished na,” Doloiras said.
The Lady Spikers registered 12 service aces while the Lady Warriors had none.
Sisi Rondina fired 29 points for UST.
Donna Nebrea had three markers for UE.
The Tiger Spikers will go against the Adamson University Soaring Falcons while the Lady Spikers will play against the National University Lady Bulldogs and Adamson on Oct. 2, Tuesday, at the same venue.
