THE UST Junior Tiger Sands picked up twin wins after steamrolling the UPIS Junior Fighting Maroons in the UAAP Season 86 beach volleyball tournaments at the SM Sands by the Bay on Friday, April 26.

UST improved to a 3-1 win-loss record in the boys’ division, while the Junior Tiger Sands kept their unblemished record of 3-0 in girls’ play. On the other hand, both UPIS teams remained winless after four games.

UST’s duo of Michael Lagaran and Lance Malinao crushed UPIS’s tandem of JM Navarro and Japhet Casabar, 21-7, 21-6.

After a Malinao service error, 12-7, the Tiger Sands blasted away with a 9-0 blitz to draw first blood.

The Junior Tiger Sands remained hot in the second frame with an 11-3 start before inserting their third man Luther Gutierrez, who sealed the deal with consecutive kills, 21-6.

“So far, nakikita namin na nakakabalik na kami sa galaw namin, especially ‘yong boys,” UST assistant coach Efraem Dimaculangan told the Varsitarian. “Sa next games, we’ll just go back to the basics and focus sa ball control.”

In the girls’ division, Junior Tiger Sands Khylem Progella and Cameron Villaluz dominated UPIS’s duo of Khloe Long and Sofiah Inandan, 21-8, 21-6.

UST will next face UE in the boys’ tournament and Adamson in the girls’ tournament tomorrow, April 27, at the same venue.
