THE UST Lady Booters halted defending champion De La Salle University’s 23-game winning streak with a slim 1-0 victory at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.
La Salle combined for 10-straight wins in the UAAP and 13 consecutive wins in the PFF Women’s League before UST put a stop to it.
Shelah Mae Cadag drilled the lone goal of the game at the 73rd minute off a Hazel Lustan assist.
Charisa Lemoran’s attempt in the 87th minute went high over the post.
“Sobrang saya. Parang ito ata ‘yung first time na nanalo kami sa La Salle sa UAAP. Ang laki ng in-improve ng mga bata in terms of attitude kasi nagta-trabaho talaga sila,” UST head coach Prescila “Aging” Rubio said.
La Salle had the chance to equalize the match during the 81st and 91st minutes but UST goalkeeper Nicole Reyes saved both shots.
UST improved to a 2-1 win-loss card in the tournament.
The Lady Booters will next face the University of the Philippines on Feb. 17, Saturday, 3 p.m., at the same venue.
