5 UST Lady Booters named in PH team

FIVE UST Lady Booters have been tapped to reinforce the Philippine women’s national football team competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Asian Qualifiers in Tajikistan from Nov. 4 to 13.

Lady Booters Shellah Mae Cadag, Charisa Lemoran, Hazel Lustan, Ivy Lopez and Nicole Reyes are among the 20 members of the Malditas, who routed Singapore, 9-0, at the Hisor Central Stadium Sunday.

Cadag also scored her first hat trick in her debut for the national team.

“Big factor ‘yong cohesion ng team kasi they were able to work and move as one unit despite the fact that they came from diffrent schools,” UST head coach Prescila “Aging” Rubio told the Varsitarian in an online interview.

Rubio, who is also part of the Malditas’ coaching staff, said the team started traning last September.

Other participating countries are Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Iran, Hong Kong, Lebanon, Myanmar, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Palestine, Jordan, Indonesia and Maldives.

The Philippines will next battle host-country Tajikistan in its second game on Nov. 8.
