THE UST Golden Booters breezed past the University of the East Red Warriors, 3-2, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football tournament at the Far Eastern University-Diliman football pitch Sunday.

With the win, the Golden Booters tied the De La Salle University at first place with a 2-3-1 win-draw-loss card for nine points.

UST’s Conrado Dimacali III broke a 2-all deadlock after firing a goal from the bottom of the left corner in the 82nd minute.

“[T]his game is our turning point. May mga errors pa pero nakakahawak na kami ng bola at bumalik na ‘yong kumpiyansa ng mga players,” Golden Booters head coach Marjo Allado said in an interview.

Trailing 1-2, Red Warrior Mason Vergara scored a tap-in goal in the 71st minute to equalize.

Down 1-0 coming into the second half, Steven Anotado pulled off a brace after dinking a header in the 60th minute before launching a screamer four minutes later.

UE’s Krysler Opeña broke the ice in the 10th minute after drilling a tap-in goal.

UST will wrap up the first round against defending champion University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on March 14, Thursday, 1 p.m., at the same venue.
