ALJIREH Fuchigami scored the lone goal for UST as the Golden Booters nosed out the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 1-0, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football tournament at the FEU-Diliman pitch Sunday.
FEU never recovered as Fuchigami broke the ice in the 49th minute with a header.
“Masaya ako na walang nag-concede sa player and so far, nakita ko sa kanila ang consistency sa pressing kaya naka-goal kami early in the second half,” Golden Booters head coach coach Marjo Allado said.
John Renz Saldivar failed to convert the equalizer for the Tamaraws in the 70th minute after his shot went over the bar.
Viejay Frigillano’s screamer in the 88th minute was blocked by UST team captain Ian de Castro.
The Golden Booters now sit at third place with a 3-5-1 win-draw-loss card for 14 points, while the Tamaraws fell to second behind a 4-3-2 slate for 15 markers.
Up next for UST are the University of the East Red Warriors on April 4, Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at the same venue.
