THE UST Golden Booters settled for a 1-1 draw with the DLSU Green Booters in the UAAP Season 86 men’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Pitch on Thursday, March 16.

DLSU forward Egnatte Anoh netted a penalty goal late in the first half for a 1-0 lead.

UST midfielder Jacob Garciano converted a goal off a Kyler Ken Escobar assist to tie the game in the 61st minute.

Golden Booters team captain Miguel Abada denied a potential go-ahead goal for the Green Booters in the 70th minute before Enrico Mangaoang did the same with UST’s attempt to take the lead in the 93rd minute.

“‘Yong laro namin, hindi siya ‘yong sa expectations namin. Sobrang not aggressive,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said postgame. “Palagi kaming talo sa first-to-the-ball tapos maraming bad passes.”

“We gave away a penalty instead of pabayaan mo na lang ‘yong striker ng La Salle and let our goalkeeper decide kung kaya niya talaga i-save ‘yon. Ngayon, you gave a penalty, you get a yellow card, you’re suspended for the next game,” he added.

UST defenders Jarred Regis and John Mark Garcia were given yellow cards in the 45th and 46th minutes, respectively. Garciano endured a yellow card as well for UST in the 66th minute.

UST is behind DLSU in the standings with a 2-2-1 win-loss-draw record. The Green Booters, with a 2-1-2 record, sustained their second draw.

The Golden Booters will next face the FEU Tamaraws at the same venue on March 17, Sunday, at 4:30 p.m.
