THE UST Golden Booters tallied their second straight win with a 4-0 thrashing of the UE Red Warriors in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Pitch on Thursday, April 4.

UST solidified its hold of the fourth seed after rising to a 4-3-1 win-loss-draw record with 13 points, while UE remained in sixth place with three points built on a 1-7-0 slate.

Golden Booter Chris Valderama found Tarsish Garciano for a chip shot late in the first half, 1-0. Garciano missed UST’s previous game against DLSU on March 24 after serving a one-game suspension.

Another Valderama pass in the second half allowed Jarred Regis to score a header in the 47th minute.

After 23 minutes, Garciano converted a header of his own, capitalizing on Jan Baito’s corner kick to complete his brace in the 70th minute.

Regis also notched a brace, sealing UST’s clean sheet win with a goal in the extended second half, 4-0.

“We started the game slow. Pero at least bago matapos ‘yong halftime, nakascore kami,” UST head coach Marjo Allado told the Varsitarian. “That goal gave confidence to the players.”

“A job well-done for the boys kasi kailangan talaga namin ‘yong panalo para maka-catch up sa other teams na nasa top four. We cannot afford to drop points.”

The UST Golden Booters will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the same venue on April 11, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. with reports from Jeremy R. Edera
