AFTER FIVE games, the UST Lady Booters remained winless after suffering a 3-0 loss against the DLSU Lady Booters in their UAAP Season 86 women’s football second-round opener at the UP Diliman Football Pitch on Saturday, April 6.

UST lost its fifth consecutive game, while DLSU improved to a 4-1-0 win-loss-draw card. UST’s last victory was against the Ateneo Blue Eagles on April 29, 2023.

Despite the loss, UST head coach Aging Rubio praised the Lady Booters for their adjustments against the second-seeded DLSU.

“Maganda naman ‘yong pinakita ng mga bata,” Rubio told the Varsitarian. “Malaking bagay na naka-adjust kami in terms of depensa kasi malakas ang atake ng La Salle.”

The Lady Booters continued to struggle offensively, with this loss being their fourth scoreless game out of five.

“Ang problema ay nahihirapan kasi kumuha ng balance ‘yong players sa training dahil doon sa field,” Rubio said. “Hindi namin ginagawa itong excuse pero if we cannot do it properly in training, we cannot expect a good performance in the game.”

A long volley pass by DLSU’s Anicka Castañeda allowed her fellow Lady Booter Angelica Teves to draw first blood in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Castañeda had another assist after a through-pass to Chenny Danoso in the 75th minute.

Shai del Campo sealed DLSU’s fourth win with a conversion in the added time. With this, Del Campo became the league leader in total goals with five.

The UST Lady Booters will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the same venue on Saturday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m.
