THE UST Golden Booters crushed the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 3-0, to secure their fifth victory in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Pitch on Thursday, April 11.

From fifth place, UST rose to solo second after improving to a 5-3-1 win-loss-draw record (16 points), just one point ahead of DLSU and UP with 15 points apiece. Ateneo dropped to fifth with 14 points built on a 4-3-2 tally.

Escobar delivered the dagger goal in the 60th minute to notch his brace, 3-0.

“Ateneo is an important game para sa amin, kailangan talaga namin ‘yan,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said postgame. “Sobrang ganda ng laro namin ngayon especially kay [Kyler] Escobar sa first goal niya sa early minutes, nagbigay ‘yon ng confidence sa mga players overall.”

The Golden Booters will next face the Tamaraws at the same venue on Sunday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m.
