THE UST Lady Booters snagged their first win in UAAP Season 86 after a 3-0 thrashing of the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the second round of the women’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Pitch on Saturday, April 13.
The Lady Booters had started their season losing their first five games. Despite the win, they remained in last place with a 1-5-0 win-loss-draw record.
UST goalkeeper Lizlie Garcia stopped a penalty kick by Ateneo’s Angely Alferez early in the first half.
It took 51 minutes before Rica Gerona drew first blood to give UST a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
Bianca Sy netted a penalty kick in the 68th minute, while her fellow Lady Booter Gly Añonuevo delivered the game-sealing goal in the 79th minute of regulation.
“Nakaka-miss manalo,” UST head coach Aging Rubio said postgame. “Regardless sa performance namin in the previous games, at least ngayon, may result nang nakikita.”
The UST Lady Booters will next face the defending champions FEU Lady Tamaraws at the same venue on April 20, Saturday, at 6:30 p.m.
