THE UST Tiger Softbelles repulsed a late Ateneo Lady Eagles run en route to a 5-3 win at the statt of the UAAP tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.
Down by five, Ateneo capitalized on UST’s errors scoring three runs in the last two innings.
Anna Lacson took advantage of a UST catching error to record the Lady Eagles’ first run in the sixth inning before Jaime San Juan and Nicole dela Cruz made two consecutive conversions.
But UST pitcher Anne Antolihao, who had 17 strikeouts throughout the match, prevented the meltdown.
“Panalo pero not that kind of end game. Siguro napagod na si Antolihao at kulang pa ‘yung endurance kaya pinapahinga ko muna but by next game, babalik na rin yan,” Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo said in an interview.
Shiela May Perales struck a two run batted in (RBI) double that hit centerfield to send Celestine Palma and Mallows Garde home at the top of the second inning, 2-0.
Palma scored again, alongside CJ Roa, to put the Softbelles ahead, 4-0. Perales then scored a run via a Janah Hernandez RBI for UST, 5-0.
The Softbelles will face the UP Lady Maroons on Thursday, 9 a.m., at the same venue.
