DEFENDING champions Adamson University Lady Falcons clobbered the UST Tiger Softbelles, 7-2, to remain the only undefeated team in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.

The Lady Falcons pulled away for good after Dhelyrose Covarrubias converted two-runs-batted-in single in the seventh inning, sending Leslie Benabaye and Riezel Calumbres to homeplate.

With the defending champions holding a slim 3-2 lead at the top of the fifth inning, Covarrubias hit another two-RBI single to send Benabaye and Calumbres home.

UST’s runs only came in the bottom of the fourth inning, after Tin Palma hit a home run that sent her and Jessie Tanya Belaño to homeplate.

“’Yung natira sa amin (na batters) puro mga bata so kulang sa experience,” UST ace pitcher Ann Antolihao said.

Ricky Mae Latican and Mary Rose Acuna filled in as the starting pitchers to give leeway for Antolihao to rest her injured left knee.

The Softbelles sank to second place behind Adamson in the standings with a 3-1 win-loss record.

UST will try to bounce back against the National University Lady Bulldogs on Feb. 12, Monday, 1 p.m., at the same venue. I.R. L. Suing
