THE UNIVERSITY of the East Lady Warriors used a strong second inning to pummel the UST Tiger Softbelles, 5-1, in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.
Roxzell Niloban, Charlene Quintos, Mary Joy Catacutan, Princess Huesca and Josephine Francisco converted runs for UE at the bottom of the second inning for a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Jessie Belaño scored the lone run for UST at the top of the seventh inning courtesy of a Sheila Perales run-batted-in.
“Wala po silang palo tapos dapat hindi ako gagamitin pero tumama [mga palo ng] UE kaya no choice, kaliangan kong pumasok,” ace pitcher Ann Antolihao said.
Ricky Mae Latican and Arielyn Arreglado started out as the main pitchers for UST in the first two innings before Antolihao was subbed in.
The Softbelles tied with National University at second place with identical 7-4 win-loss cards.
The Softbelles will wrap up the elimination round against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons on March 3, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
