THE UST Tiger Softbelles walloped the De La Salle University Lady Batters in five innings, 7-0, in the UAAP Season 81 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.
With UST’s bases loaded in the first inning, Trisha Tiozon hammered a right-field-fly three runs-batted-in (RBI) three-bagger that sent Hanna de la Torre, Mharnie de la Cruz and Tin Palma to home plate, 3-0.
“Masyadong kumpiyansa ang La Salle kasi maliit ‘yong bata (Tiozon), hindi nila alam dalawang dikit bakod ang ipinalo niya noong unang laro namin. Si Sales naman, marunong na siya pumalo ng outside corner na pitch,” Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo said.
UST’s Tiozon added another run off a Lea Guevarra grounder RBI in the first inning, 4-0.
Charlotte Sales put the game away for the Softbelles in the fourth inning with a three RBI triple that sent Jesilin Añides, de la Cruz and Guevarra to home base, 7-0.
UST pitcher Irene Lumanas played a full game and held La Salle scoreless and allowed just five hits.
The Softbelles improved to a 2-1 win-loss slate while La Salle dropped to 3-1.
UST will next face eight-time defending champion Adamson University Lady Falcons on Feb. 25, Monday, 1 p.m., at the same venue.
